Scottish Diaspora Tapestry
9 January - 23 January 2016
The Scottish Diaspora Tapestry TELLING TALES TO SCOTLAND exhibition has been on a worldwide tour during 2015 and features 305 embroidered tapestries telling tales of Scottish experiences away from the homeland.
The tapestries depict a broad range of topics including exploration, agriculture, gold rushes, engineering, politics, botany, music and song. Scots migrated all over the world and have often had a profound impact on the areas they settled.
The tapestries are organised into seven geographical groups including Tales from the Baltic, Western Europe, Southern Asia, Canada, Americas, Africa and Australasia and Ireland and England. Sewing took place in countries including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Argentina, China, England and the Netherlands.
Exhibition curator, Jenny Bruce from Scotland, will be in residence each day during the exhibition to take your questions.
You can view the tapestries in the Hobart Reading Room, level 2, 91 Murray Street Hobart until 23 January 2016.
